Slow Motion Video Of The Nikon D4 Shutter

Watch the video below to see just how amazing the engineering behind a modern professional DSLR is. The footage, recorded at 1920 frames per second by YouTube user krnabrnydziobak using a Phantom high speed video camera, shows the precise mechanical movements inside a Nikon D4‘s mirrorbox while it’s firing away at 10 frames per second.

Notice the smaller secondary mirror behind the primary mirror – this reflects light to the autofocus sensors, which are housed below the mirrorbox – and the amount of vibration in the shutter blades as well as mirror flap, which is only noticeable at these speeds. Very impressive stuff.
