Great close-up portraits of various South African personalities, taken by local photographer Morne van Zyl.

These portraits are part of an ongoing close-ups project local photographer Morne van Zyl has been working on over the last few years. The photographs feature various South African personalities, from creatives to bloggers to musicians, all confronted with a camera and ring-flash combo right in their faces. We like Morne’s idea to ‘etch’ his name into the catchlights in the subject’s eyes by stencilling the ring-flash – see the reflection in the glasses in the last portrait below.
