A little framing inspiration by Cape Town-based freelance Designer and Photographer, Michelle Viljoen on the Orms Maker Series.

If you follow the Orms Instagram account you’ll know that we’ve started a little mission called the Orms Maker Series, where we collaborate with local photographers, designers, and creatives to showcase a variety of inspirational projects. During September, we connected with Cape Town-based freelance Designer and Photographer, Michelle Viljoen. You might remember we shared an interview with Michelle where chatted about how she started in photography, the gear she loves and what drives her inspiration. Micherlle also framed a few of her prints with us, you can read more about that below.

“Photographs can evoke meaningful emotions, yet most of us store them on our laptop’s or hide them in albums on social media. As a photographer I think there’s something special about taking a picture and turning it into a piece of art. As I recently had the oportunity to form part of the Orms Maker Series project at Orms I was gifted with frames and prints of my choice. After much consideration (there are loads of options), I decided to opt for the lIford Fibre-based black and white prints . As a result of the exceptional quality, the prints do take a while longer to produce, but it’s most definitely worth the wait.

Next is the framing, here it’s all about what works with your print and decor. For me, it was about making it work with my living room aesthetic; clean, minimal and trendy was the way forward. In the end I couldn’t be happier with the final framed prints and like I said, it’s one thing looking at photographs on screen, but seeing them printed takes it to a whole new level.

Let’s hope this inspires you to create your own!”

If you are not familiar with the Orms Maker Series? Our mission is simple – to spread inspiration. No one knows for sure where inspiration comes from. All we can be sure of is that it exists. Some of us chase it; others have enough of it for all of us combined. It’s just one of those things. You know it when it hits you, and when it does, you have to act. You have to bake, paint, capture – you have to create.

So our big idea with the Orms Maker Series, to inspire creativity through beautiful photos of the creative process. Over the coming months, we will be collaborating with local photographers, designers and creatives to showcase a variety of inspirational projects. Stay tuned, we’ve got so much more coming your way!
