12 Megapixel 1-inch CMOS image sensor with 4K recording
The XC15 Camcorder features a 12.0 Megapixel 1-inch CMOS image sensor that is capable of recording ultra-high definition 4K videos at a cinematic 25 or 24fps with the option of recording at either 305mbs or 205mbs in a H.264 4:2:2, 8-bit codec. Full HD and HD recording is also available; Full HD can be recorded at up to 50fps and HD can be recorded at up to 100fps.
10x wide-angle optical zoom lens
The Canon XC15 video camera utilises a 10x wide angle optical zoom lens specifically made for 4K recording. The lens features a wide focal length of 24.1-241 mm for photos and 27.3-273 mm for movies and utilises a 3-surface 2-piece aspherical lens with UD (Ultra-low Dispersion) and Hi-UD lens elements to reduce various kinds of aberrations and improve overall image quality. The wide focal length will enable you to capture an extremely wide variety of subjects, possible subjects includes, sport, wildlife, documentary, architectural and live performances.
Optical image stabilisation
The Canon XC15 features optical image stabilisation (OIS) for both videos and pictures. OIS provides shake free and progressive videos and sharp, blur free images. Three modes of Image Stabilization are offered (Dynamic, Standard, and Powered) to suit a range of shooting situations.
12 stops of dynamic range
The Canon XC15 sensor features 12 stops of dynamic range. The high dynamic range will allow the sensor to capture more shades of colour and will capture more definition in shadows and bright areas.
ISO 160 to 20,000 light sensitivity range
The area ratio per pixel is approximately 1.6 times greater than previous Canon HD CMOS PRO sensors and allows the XC15 to boast a high light sensitivity of up to ISO 20 000 while still producing low levels of noise. This enables the XC15 to capture sharp, detailed and clear videos/images in low light situations.
High speed recording up to 100FPS
Simply select high speed recording and the XC15 will record breath-taking slow motion videos at up to 100 fps in 720p HD quality.
Over-sampling HD processing
The advanced CMOS sensor uses Over-Sampling HD Processing for Full HD recording, this is the same high-image-quality signal-processing system used by the professional Canon EOS C500 4K Cinema camera.
Fast autofocus and automatic face detection
The XC15 features a autofocus that is about twice as fast as comparable Canon models and features automatic face detection, providing awesome subject tracking. Autofocus speed can be set in three steps – high (the default), middle, and low. Automatic face detection continuously maintains focus, even when a subject is moving; and if there is more than one subject in the frame you simply touch the subject on the screen, and the XC15 will continuously focus on the selected subject.
A new feature of the XC15 4K UHD Camcorder is the ability to see a Waveform on the display, great for outdoor and other difficult light shooting. A touch-sensitive on/off button located on the main display activates and deactivates the waveform function. When active, the waveform of the current image is displayed on-screen to let videographers check video-signal levels and characteristics such as exposure and make necessary adjustments.
A viewfinder is included to help shooting in bright conditions. The included viewfinder unit helps make shooting outside a breeze. The viewfinder uses two reflecting mirrors to optically refract the image on the LCD monitor. It also supports low-angle shooting, and provides a clear and user-friendly view.
Freestyle rotating handgrip
The handgrip can be rotated to various positions and stopped at different points to allow comfortable shooting at high and low angles. The grip contributes to the camcorder’s intuitive user interface and provides easy to reach controls.
3” 1.03-million-dot tilting LCD with touch panel
A 3 inch 1.03-million-dot LCD monitor a bright, vivid display for shooting and playing back. The LCD can be tilted up or down to allow shooting from low or high angles. This LCD also integrates a highly advanced capacitive touch-panel for easy camera control.
Canon Log and Wide Dynamic Range Gamma.
The XC15 incorporates Canon's Log and Wide Dynamic Range Gamma, these post-production enhancing features are also found on Canon's high end cinema and pro broadcast cameras.
Canon Log is ideal for critical and high quality colour-correction and grading in post-production. Canon Log makes post-process grading, toning and exposure correction more effective as it captures a wider tonal range.
Canon Wide Dynamic Range Gamma features most of the benefits of Canon Log, but maintains an 18% gray point to obtain the full dynamic range of the sensor, but without the need for extensive post-processing.
Built-In stereo microphone
A built-in microphone captures clear stereo audio and delivers linear PCM 48 kHz 16-bit audio recording.
3.5mm microphone, XLR microphone, and 3.5mm earphone ports
One 3.5mm microphone, one 3.5mm earphone, and two XLR inputs on the included MA-400 microphone module enables using professional grade audio equipment with the XC15. The MA-400 module also allows manual or automatic audio level control, the ability to receive line level signals, and features an integrated microphone holder to facilitate mounting a shotgun style mic directly to the unit.
