FlightAutonomy in the Phantom 4 Professional has been greatly improved and now features 5 directions of obstacle avoidance. This obstacle avoidance system is made up from a complex network of ten component groups including seven cameras; forward, rearward; side infrared sensing systems; downward dual vision sensors; the primary camera; dual-band satellite positioning (GPS and GLONASS); two downward facing ultrasonic rangefinders, redundant IMUs and compasses; and a group of powerful, specialized computing cores.
The new infrared sensing systems sensors have a horizontal field of view of 70°, a vertical field of view of 20°, and a maximum range of 7m, providing a wide view of the scene to the sides of the Phantom 4 Pro. These infrared systems replaced the traditional ultrasonic sensors because they only have a detection range of 3-5m and may be confused when affected by propeller vibration or when sensing uneven surfaces.
Together all these components renders an accurate 3D environment (up to 30m) around the DJI P4 Pro and monitors critical data and rule out possible errors so it can react to its surroundings. This obstacle avoidance system works both in outdoor and indoor environments and is activated in every Intelligent Flight Mode including all ActiveTrack modes, TapFly and Terrain Follow. It is also available during automatic Return to Home, and the drone will follow its flown path back while dogging obstacles to return safely in case of a lost connection or low battery.
The DJI Phantom 4 Professional's ActiveTrack successfully makes autonomous/automatic follow recording a reality. Whether you or your subject are running, cycling, skating, skiing, driving, the Phantom 4 Professional uses an advanced combination of computer vision, object recognition, gesture support and machine learning to track as your subject moves. Circling a moving object and keeping it in frame used to only be achievable by the most confident of pilots, now thanks to completely autonomous following and flight speeds of up to 72kmph everyone can do it. A new algorithm also recognizes more subjects, from people to vehicles to animals, and will adjust its flight dynamics to match, ensuring smoother shots.
New ActiveTrack flight modes opens new creative tracking including Trace, a follow mode behind or in front of a subject; Profile, for tracking alongside a subject at a variety of angles to get profile shots of the subject; and Spotlight, a mode that keeps the camera trained on a subject while the aircraft flies almost anywhere. The entire time ActiveTrack is running obstacle avoidance is too, so it will decide whether it should continue following, avoid an obstacle or simply stop.
You dont have to manually fly the DJI Phantom 4 with the control sticks, TapFly takes over all of these controls for you leaving you to focus on your shot. Using TapFly mode, all you have to do to is tap on the screen of your smartphone or tablet and the Phantom 4 Pro will fly there. To change the direction of flight, you can simply tap the screen to fly anywhere. Using its Flight Autonomy Obstacle Sensing System, the DJI Phantom 4 can fly places you might not have gone before, to create dynamic and inspiring footage.
The DJI Phantom 4 Professional features a failsafe auto-return home feature and will automatically return to the exact spot it took-of if it detects that the battery is running low, connection to the controller is lost or if the return home button is pressed. The drone will follow the exact flown path back with the FlightAutonomy obstacle sensing system to safely guide the drone past moving/moved obstacles.
The DJI Phantom 4 Professional can be controlled up to a whopping 7km range. This will let you explore a little bit further and give you greater confidence and security when flying.
A new powerful 5870 mAh intelligent flight battery gives the DJI P4 Pro a long flight time of up to 30 minutes. Users with the standard Phantom 4 and batteries will be happy to know that the DJI Phantom 4 Pro is compatible with the the older batteries.
The Phantom 4 Pro uses a combination of titanium and magnesium alloy to increase rigidity and while reducing weight. This makes the Phantom 4 Professional similar in weight to the Phantom 4, even with the larger camera sensor.
Sport mode speeds up the Phantom 4 Pro for swift and responsive control. In Sport mode the Phantom 4 Pro can reach speeds up to 72kmph enabling you to keep up with fast moving subjects.
The DJI Phantom 4 Pro features a brand new, and about 4 times larger 20MP 1-inch CMOS sensor. Each individual pixel on the sensor is physically larger than those of the original Phantom 4, this gives a wider surface area for each pixel to capture light and provides much greater image and video quality across the board.
The Obsidian edition DJI Phantom 4 Pro drone can record 4K UHD (3840×2160) video internally at up to 60 frames per second, or 4K DCI (4096×2160) at 50fps. Both 4K resolutions can record at a very high bitrate of 100Mbps (Normal Phantom 4 recorded at 60Mbps) in H.265, at up to 30fps, or H.264, at up to 60fps, for higher quality video files. 4K is the latest standard in high definition video and features 4 times more pixels than HD. The videos are stored internally on a microsd card. The camera can also record at a fast frame rate of 120fps in Full HD, or 120fps in HD.
The DJI Phantom 4 Professional Obsidian can record 4K videos in the latest H.265 HEVC/MPEG-H video format. HEVC (short for High Efficiency Video Coding) delivers video quality identical to H.264 AVC (used in previous drones) at almost half the bit rate; and the P4 Pro records at a higher bitrate in of 100Mbps in H.265. Theoretically, to reach the same video quality as the P4 Pro the standard version of the Phantom 4 (which can only record at 60Mbps) would have to record H.264 at 200Mbps.
The Phantom 4 Pro also brings aperture control to the DJI app with a variable aperture range of f/2.8 to f/1; this is a first for a Phantom series drone. The aperture control will enable you to control your shutterspeed better in bright conditions. Previously other Phantom drones needed neutral density (ND) filters to achieve slower shutterspeeds in bright light, now the aperture can be controlled remotely straight from the DJI Go App, without having to land your drone.
The Phantom 4 Professional features a whopping maximum ISO of 12800 , up from ISO 3200 on the standard model, and features a fast F2.8 lens. This will enable you to record in much less light and also improve image quality. The new maximum ISO is capable because of the much larger sensor and a new image processor algorithm.
A three-axis stabilising gimbal holds the camera and automatically corrects unwanted high frequency flight movement for smooth and professional looking video.
When capturing objects moving at high speed the Phantom 4 has always produced rolling shutter distortion because of using an electronic shutter. The new Phantom 4 Pro is the first DJI Phantom to use a mechanical shutter with a max speed of 1/2000s to eliminate the destructive rolling shutter distortion. The electronic shutter has also been improved with a max shutter speed of 1/8000 seconds.
The DJI Phantom 4 Pro's camera features a 20MP sensor, and can capture images in either DNG raw or JPEG. DNG Raw stores all the image data from the sensor and enables better image control during post-processing. Burst Mode shoots 20MP images at a rate of 14 fps so you to catch the perfect moment, or create awesome action sequences.
The DJI Phantom 4 Pro's larger camera sensor boasts a spectacular dynamic range of 11.6 stops for better detail in shadows and highlights. For even more dynamic range and control the camera can capture videos in a flat colour profile for better colour grading in post-processing.
Want to take a selfie, just make a frame with your fingers. Want the Phantom 4 Pro to follow you, just raise your arms or wave and the drone will follow you. In Gesture mode the DJI Phantom 4 Pro's vision system can recognize gestures so you can operate the drone remote free.
All the camera settings, including ISO, shutter speed and exposure compensation, can be set on the DJI Go app.
A 720p resolution Live View can be streamed from the DJI Phantom 4 Pro camera in either 2.4GHz or 5.8GHz frequencies to a compatible smartphone or tablet, and from the device it can even be streamed directly to YouTube using the Go app.
The Phantom 4 Pro camera features a brand new 35mm equivalent 24mm f/2.8 lens. The lens has been optimised for capturing aerial footage and features eight elements – 2 aspherical – arranged in seven groups that fit into a smaller, more compact frame. Its images are consistently detailed with low distortion and low dispersion, ensuring that photos and videos are sharp and vivid.
The DJI Go app also features a flight simulator to practice your flying skills.
The ‘Director’ feature automatically edits shots into short videos that can be shared immediately after landing.
All the camera settings, including ISO, shutter speed, focus and exposure compensation, can be set using the DJI Go app.
