The Sigma 500mm f/4 DG OS HSM Sports is a high-performance, full-frame 500mm fixed focal length super telephoto lens built for professional applications. The lens excels at capturing distant, fast moving subjects with unreal levels of sharpness; and achieves this by utilising a fast maximum aperture of f/4, a range of high quality optics/coatings, a 4-stop optical stabiliser, and a swift focusing HSM motor. The lens is also designed to be used in tough conditions and is made from a durable magnesium alloy, and the front of the lens features a water- and oil-repellent coating.
Two FLD and one SLD glass elements
The Sigma 500mm f/4 DG OS HSM Sports combats aberrations by utilising two FLD and one SLD glass elements. These elements also helps to produce high image sharpness, clarity, and contrast
Two mode 4-stop optical stabilisation for sharp images
The Sigma 500mm Sport features an intelligent optical image stabilisation system called OS. The OS system is rated at 4-stops and will provide sharp images at up to 16 times slower shutterspeeds than non stabilised lenses.
The system features 2 shooting modes. Mode 1 provides the user with conventional lens-shift stabilisation; and in Mode 2 an acceleration sensor works with the OS to provide stabilization while you move/pan the camera horizontally, vertically, or diagonally, to provide image stabilisation that is suited towards panning shots.
Autofocus function switch with preset focus modes
An autofocus function switch allows you to set your own autofocus specification. The lens can remember the focus position of your choice or turn off AF until it is needed.
Stronger and faster HSM autofocus motor
A new Hyper Sonic Motor (HSM) provides 1.3 times the torque of previous models, and provides faster focusing throughout the entire focus range.
Retains autofocus with TC-1401 and TC-2001 teleconverters*
The Sigma 500mm f/4 DG OS HSM Sports lens is fully compatible with Sigma's TC-1401 1.4x and TC-2001 2.0x teleconconverters and will even maintain autofocus capability*. When combined with the TC-1401 1.4x teleconverter the lens will be equivalent to a 700mm F5.6, and with the TC-2001 2x teleconverter it will be equivalent to a 1000mm F8.
*Only camera bodies with F8 autofocus will be able to maintain AF with the TC-2001 2x teleconverter
