The Nikon ZR 6K Cinema Camera is a tiny Z-mount cinema camera that combines RED colour science with Nikon engineering to create this first-of-its-kind powerhouse that produces stunning cinematic images in one compact body.
With Nikon's Z lens mount, you can use a wide variety of lenses, with integrated image stabilisation of up to 7.5 stops, providing a smooth and steady image with up to 15+ stops of dynamic range.
In partnership with RED, Nikon provides a range of compatibility with production workflows, including REDCODE, Z-RAW, and ProRes RAW, with resolutions up to 6K60. The Nikon Z R 6K Cinema Camera uses dynamic 32-bit float and 24-bit recording.
The Nikon ZR 6K Cinema Camera employs advanced autofocus features powered by deep learning that provide up to 9-subject detection autofocus, with automatic tracking of people, animals and vehicles.
The Nikon Z R Camera records to a CFexpress Type B card, while a microSD card slot is available for proxy recording. A built-in 4" vari-angle touchscreen features DCI-P3 colour gamut, 1000 cd/m² brightness, and a 3.07 million dot resolution for easy and bright viewing. A single EN-EL15c battery powers the Nikon ZR, or power can be supplied via USB-C with an external power source.
Nikon + RED Colour Science
In partnership with RED, Nikon provides a range of compatibility with production workflows in the Nikon ZR 6K Cinema Camera. These include REDCODE RAW R3D recording format along with Nikon's N-RAW, ProRes RAW HQ/422 HQ, and the high-quality compressed H.264 and H.265 codecs. REDCODE RAW (R3D NE) unlocks the same colour space (REDWideGamutRGB) and Log curve (Log3G10) as RED cameras.
The Nikon Z R 6 K is capable of capturing resolution up to 6K60, 4K120, and even 1080p240 for high frame rate, slow-motion recording.
Audio Capture
The Nikon ZR Camera uses dynamic 32-bit float and 24-bit recording, and standard 48 kHz linear PCM for full video compatibility is supported.
On the body itself, you will find built-in configurable microphones and a line input that provides the ability to record with an external microphone. Additionally, a headphone jack allows for monitoring audio.
Recording and Output
The Nikon Z R Camera records to a single CFexpress Type B card found in the battery door to keep the body as compact as possible, while a microSD card slot is available for proxy recording.
You will also find a micro-HDMI output allowing for output to a display or recording device.

When flipping the ZR from a horizontal to a vertical orientation, the screen can automatically make changes for ease of use.
Custom LUTs
The camera provides the ability for the operator to load up to 10 LUTs into the camera for real-time preview on its display.
Lenses and Image Stabilisation
With Nikon's Z lens mount, you can use a wide variety of lenses, with integrated image stabilisation of up to 7.5 stops, providing a smooth and steady image.
Dual-Base ISO
The Nikon ZR provides extended ISO sensitivity to the base ISO with its dual-base ISO, providing 800/6400 for both Log3G10 and N-Log profiles.
Frame.io Integration
The companion app to the phone allows for streamlining of your workflow by connecting your phone to the camera and utilising the optional Frame.io cloud service that makes asset control, post production, and live streaming easy.
Power Options
A single EN-EL15c battery powers the Nikon ZR, or power can be supplied via USB-C with an external power source.
