More Than a Wedding Day: Inside JCclick’s Approach to Love, Craft, and Longevity
Wedding photography is often seen though reels and perfectly curated images. But behind every long-standing career in the photographic industry lies something much more: partnership, discipline and a commitment to growth that extends beyond the lens.
For Janco and Carlien, the couple behind JCclick, wedding photography is not just their profession. It’s shared language that is shaped by love and life.
An introduction to Janco, Carlien & JCclick
Tell us a little bit about yourselves and how JCclick was started.
We are Janco and Carlien and the founders of JCclick. Janco is the brain of JCclick, Carlien is the heart.
We met young at 17 and 18 and fell in love through photography and music. Those became our shared language long before business was ever part of the conversation. A few years later we got married, and today we’re raising two beautiful children, aged 4 and 7.
We both grew up with dads who had a deep passion for photography, opening our eyes to a world seen differently.
Carlien was eight years old when she woke up one morning knowing, with complete clarity, that she would become a photographer. Janco, on the other hand, was always documenting life at school, on family holidays, wherever moments happened.
Looking back, there was no escaping it. Photography was always meant to find us individually, and eventually, together.
As a couple, you’ve navigated both your relationship and the growth of your business. How has this personal journey shaped the philosophy of JCclick?
Before we were a couple, we were individuals. Two people learning who we were, what we believed in, and how we wanted to move through life.
In the beginning of JCclick we both tried to be “the better photographer” We soon realized that this unhealthy competition was costing our relationship and business.
We started diving into our strengths and started working as one person. This person’s main aim was to help JCclick become its best version.
That foundation shaped JCclick deeply. We learned early on that clarity, communication, and respect aren’t just relationship tools, they’re business tools.
JCclick is rooted in balance. logic, emotion, structure, creativity, ambition, humanity. That philosophy guides how we work with couples, how we lead teams, and how we teach others today.
Do you remember the moment you knew wedding photography was the path you wanted to follow?
We studied at Vega School of Photography, and in our final year we were tasked with creating a full business presentation logo, brand, website, and vision.
Inspired by our own love story, we created a wedding photography company. It felt natural. Honest. Aligned.
In 2011, we made it official. What started as a student project became a lifelong calling.
Photography Style & Approach
JCclick’s work is instantly recognisable, not because it follows a strict formula, but because it adapts to each couple that they work with. Their approach to wedding photography is to focus on the couple’s energy and personality, allowing it to guide their visual language on their special day.

How would you describe JCclick’s signature photography style?
Authentic.
After photographing weddings since 2011, we’ve learned that no two people are the same and no single style should ever be forced onto them.
Our approach is to see people for who they truly are and then photograph them in a way that reflects that truth. Finding their best angles, yes but more importantly, their real moments.
That’s why our work holds a mix of styles. Each couple brings their own energy, and our job is to adapt, not impose.
What are the most important skills aspiring wedding photographers should develop first?
Business skills and people skills.
You can have incredible technical knowledge, but without systems and emotional intelligence, the journey becomes unnecessarily hard. The wedding industry is full of talented creatives, what sets you apart is how you run your business and how you work with people.
Structure creates freedom. And people remember how you made them feel long after they remember your images.
How do you approach working with couples and their individual preferences?
We are incredibly fortunate our couples trust us deeply, and that trust gives us creative freedom.
To stay aligned, we ask couples to contribute to a shared Pinterest board. It allows them to show us what they love without needing to explain it in words.
Some brides love veil shots, others don’t. Some prefer wide angles, others intimate close-ups. The board gives us insight, while still allowing us to create authentically rather than copy.

What are some unseen challenges of wedding photography?
Wedding photography carries a unique pressure. The date cannot move. No matter what’s happening in your personal life illness, loss, exhaustion you show up and give everything.
Your weekends are rarely your own, and most of your friendships naturally form within the industry because only fellow creatives truly understand the lifestyle.
And yet, the reward is extraordinary. You travel, you witness love stories, and every weekend is different. Most importantly, you do deeply meaningful work.
When you help someone feel confident, seen, and beautiful, you’re not just delivering photos you’re impacting how they remember themselves.
Every career has challenges. Fulfilment comes from how you choose to approach them.
What does your preparation process look like for an upcoming wedding?
Once a couple books with us, we help create a timeline if their coordinator hasn’t already done so. This ensures the day flows smoothly, with enough buffer time for moments that inevitably run late.
A month before the wedding, our brides complete a simple questionnaire covering all key details. They also provide a family photo list to streamline the day.
Combined with our shared Pinterest board, this preparation allows us to show up calm, present, and fully focused on storytelling.
What’s a mistake you made early on that taught you the most?
Not having systems for everything.
Early on, we didn’t yet know what we didn’t know. Over time, we realised that without systems, burnout is inevitable.
This realisation led to the creation of The Wedding Lab soon to be launched in the next few months. It’s a four-month coaching program for the wedding creative industry. We work with a small group of 15 creatives, dissect their businesses, implement proven systems, and identify the hidden mistakes that cost bookings and client trust.
Without systems, most creatives leave the industry within three years. We’ve seen it too often

Tools of the Trade
While gear is always evolving, JCclick’s philosophy around equipment remains grounded. Tools should serve a story, not distract you from it.
Can you tell us about the gear you shoot with?
Our gear excites us. It’s reliable, intuitive, and feels like having a trusted teammate by our side. Part of what has us excited for a wedding day is knowing our gear will be there all the way.
Photography gear:
Body: Sony A9 III

· Lenses:
, 50–150mm f/2, 70–200mm, 90mm Macro f/2.8, 50mm 1,4, 35mm 1,4
Flash: Godox V100

Video gear:
Body: 4 × Sony FX3

Drone: DJI mini 3 Pro
Great equipment removes friction, allowing us to stay present, creative, and responsive throughout the day.
What would you recommend as a starter kit for beginners?
If you can only buy one lens, start with a 24–70mm f/2.8. Weddings move fast, and constant lens changes cost moments and time.
If buying isn’t an option, hire your gear. Set aside money from every job until you can invest in your own equipment. Think long-term.
What’s next on your gear wish list?
Gear will always evolve but our focus remains the same: tools that support speed, reliability, and creativity without distraction.
But if i were to name one item it would be the DJI Mavic 4 pro drone.

Conclusion
If you had to distil your experience into one core piece of advice, what would it be?
On a wedding day, you give everything your energy, your time, your creativity, your mind, and even your body. It’s not unusual to walk between 8,000 and 18,000 steps in a single day.
Our advice: work harder on yourself than on your business.
If your cup runs dry, your creativity fades, your patience disappears, and the industry will consume you.
That’s why the first module inside our course “The Click Empire” is Transforming Your Thoughts. A healthy mindset is the foundation of a sustainable, fulfilling wedding photography career.
