Gerhardt Coetzee
Gerhardt Coetzee (b. 1983, Pretoria) is an Afrikaans photographer and educator based in Cape Town, South Africa.
His photographs capture ‘micro-societies’ in which the present and past converge. Their fragmented focus consecrates ‘the vernacular, strange, ordinary’
Coetzee has received two Sony Profoto Silver awards and two Sony Profoto Gold Awards for his Openspaces series. He has received a merit award for the Sasol New Signatures competition and his work is part of the Sasol Permanent collection. Coetzee was also one of the ten finalists in the ABSA L’Atelier competition.
