The Blackmagic Design ATEM Microphone Converter enables you to add more microphones to your setup and allows audio input expansion for your ATEM Television Studio for converting four analogue XLR inputs to MADI. This converter is equipped with two BNC MADI I/O ports. The Microphone Converter plugs into the ATEM Television Studio MADI port, with no complex setup needed. The four XLR-1/4" combo analogue inputs are mic-/mic-/line-selectable and provide 48V phantom power.
The Blackmagic Design ATEM Microphone Converter employs 32-bit float digital preamps and eight ADCs per input to capture clip-free, 24-bit / 48 kHz recordings. This leads to a low floor noise, a wide dynamic range, and very low distortion.
For your convenience, you will find an HDMI output with a scrolling audio waveform to monitor the status of the audio. USB and Ethernet ports allow for remote admin and software updates via the ATEM Software Control app.
Digital Preamplifier Design
The Blackmagic Design ATEM Microphone Converter delivers four inputs with a wide dynamic range that eliminates the need for analogue preamplifiers, microphone levels and is adjusted by a digital preamplifier gain stage that is extremely stable.
With different microphone types and brands, the audio levels can vary widely. So this digital gain stage allows compensation for the specific brand of microphone you use.
The digital preamplifier is processed in the full internal 32-bit float RAW audio bit depth. This results in an extremely clean and noise-free gain stage. Then, the final levels can be finessed on the ATEM audio mixer as you work.
High-End Analogue-to-Digital Conversion
This converter steps outside the conventional audio industry that uses individual audio ADC, such as input implements analogue-to-digital conversion. Meaning each input channel delivers an impressive 131 dA of dynamic range. Further, you get an impressively low distortion of only 2.002%.
Extremely Low -129 dBv Noise Floor
A common problem with microphone converters is the high noise floor, where electrical noise is generated in the preamplifiers. The Blackmagic Design ATEM Microphone Converter features a very different design that eliminates this problem. All inputs are converted directly using their ultrahigh-dynamic-range conversion. To pass RAW audio to the switcher, and then let the switcher apply a sufficient level of gain for the correct audio level. This ensures you do not get an injection of noise caused by an analogue gain stage, ensuring a low fixed noise floor of -129 dBV, regardless of digital gain applied.
Connects via MADI for Multifunctional Audio
The MADI output embeds the four analogue inputs as MADI channels 1, 2, 3, and 4. You will also find a MADI input, which is used to loop multiple converters when more than four channels of audio are on a single MADI link. This means if a second converter is connected to the input of another, the upstream converter will stack its four channels above the four channels on the downstream converter.
HDMI Monitoring with Scrolling Audio Waveforms
The Blackmagic Design ATEM Microphone Converter includes an HDMI video monitoring output. This allows you to connect a TV or computer monitor, providing you with a full status display. This displays scrolling waveforms over the last 60 seconds, audio meters at input connectors and also a custom label set via the software utility.
You will also find indicators showing the switch setting for mic-/line input selection and phantom power. If these converters are daisy-chained, the monitoring output will adapt and show more than four channels.
