The Canon CN7x17 KAS S Cine-Servo 17-120mm T2.95 is carefully designed to provide the functionality and form factor of a broadcast, ENG-style-servo zoom lens with the optical precision of a cinema zoom. This lens is suitable for 4K acquisition and is designed for cinema cameras with Super 35-sized (26.2 x 13.8mm) sensors.

The Canon CN7x17 KAS S Cine-Servo 17-120mm T2.95 has a detachable drive mechanism and support for rod management. It is able to be removed, to make it equally easy to be used by a solo operator, or a full production team.

    Broadcast-Style Shooting

Suitable for Shoulder Mounted Camera Operation

The Canon CN7x17 KAS S Cine-Servo 17-120mm T2.95 features a control layout well suitable for single camera operator use or using the camera where the lens is mounted in a shoulder-mounted position. The zoom servo is controlled by rocker with the right hand and focus and iris can be operated manually with the left hand.

    Variable Speed Servo

While filming sports and fast-moving action, high-speed servo-driven and iris are available. Also, slower speed settings for more detailed work are also available. With this variability, the zoom duration can be set to last anywhere from 0.5 to seconds.

    Supports Virtual Image Data Output

With this lens it is possible to connect an external system to collect 16-bit virtual image data via three 20-pin connectors below the servo.

Standard Broadcast 12-Pin Camera Interface Cable

The lens features the same 12-pin camera interface for power and serial data as found on regular Canon broadcast lenses.

    Broadcast Lens-Style Focus Ring

Further than the servo zoom, focus, and iris, another ENG-derived feature is the knurled focus ring that is also limited to 180° rotation.

    Angle of View Shift Suppression

The lens features a three-group inner focus system that is designed to minimize angle of view shift (breathing) that occurs when focusing the lens to ensure stable framing even during rack focus.

    Flange-Back Adjustment

As on broadcast lenses, the flange may be adjusted for transition between different camera systems with different flange focal distances.

    Macro Function

A broadcast lens release style is offered where it can be easily set to macro and back again.

    Fully Closing Iris

The iris may be closed fully for setting the camera black balance or other calibration procedures.

    Cinema-Style Shooting

    Detachable Drive Unit

The Canon CN7x17 KAS S Cine-Servo 17-120mm T2.95 can be used in shooting styles where full manual control is prefered, by removing the servo motors and zoom rocker housing from the lens

    Support for Cinema Lens Accessories

Compatible with a wide range of accessories common in the cine industry, like matte boxes, follow focuses, and electronic and wireless controllers. The focus ring features both a 0.8mm pitch cine standard gear ring as well as a 0.5mm Canon pitch ring, the zoom feature a 0.5mm Canon pitch, and there is also a 0.4mm pitch iris gear

    Compatible with Lens Support

Due to the weight of the lens, it is normally needed to support the lens using a 15mm or 19mm rod system. The Canon 17-120mm makes that possible to allow you to attach a lens support.

    Lens-to-Camera Metadata Transmission

The Canon CN7x17 KAS S Cine-Servo 17-120mm T2.95 directly communicates with your Cinema EOS camera through the lens interface. This allows lens metadata such as zoom settings and iris to be recorded in the camera.
You will also find a standard 12-pin broadcast camera interface which transmits zoom, focus and iris date to the camera or other connected device via this connection.

    11-Blade Aperture Design

The 11-aperture blade lens design creates lens flares and orbs that produce a bokeh effect as close to round as possible.

    Lens Design

    Aspherical Lens Technology

All spherical lenses refract more in the periphery than the centre, this makes it impossible to be sharp across the entire frame. As with an aspherical, a much more focused image is provided. Furthermore, there are fewer elements required in the lens design which makes it sharper and also reduces the physical size and weight of the lens.

    Canon Fluorite Coating

The Canon CN7x17 KAS S Cine-Servo 17-120mm T2.95 features Canon's special fluorite coating, reason being that glass lenses can never be totally free from aberration. The fluorite coating features an anomalous characteristic that effectively reduces the aberration below what is possible with optical glass alone.

    UD and Hi-UD Glasses

Furthermore, there is ultra-low dispersion (UD_ glass that helps to reduce chromatic aberration. Also, it features Hi-UD that offers high refraction in addition to low dispersion to help prevent spherical as well as chromatic aberration.
