Driven by a leadscrew-type STM motor, this lens offers fast, quiet and precise autofocus performance throughout the zoom range. When working in handheld orientation the Canon RF 16-28mm f/2.8 IS STM Lens employs a built-in image stabilisation system that creates notably sharper imagery.
The Canon RF 16-28mm f/2.8 IS STM Lens construction includes four Ultra-low Dispersion (UD) elements and two aspherical elements to assist in reducing chromatic aberrations and contribute to the compact form factor of the lens. It also offers weather-resistance similar to L-Series lenses.
Superb Optical Construction
The Canon RF 16-28mm f/2.8 IS STM Lens offers exceptional image quality with edge-to-edge clarity as well as enhanced contrast. This is achieved with four Ultra-Low Dispersion (UD) elements and two aspherical elements utilised in the lens construction and optical design. The total optical design comprises of 16 elements in 13 groups.
Canon has applied its Super Spectra Coating (SSC) on the lens glass to assist in preventing ghosting and lens flare to produce an accurate colour reproduction. A rounded nine-blade diaphragm contributes dreamlike bokeh and pleasing background and foreground blur.
Optimized Image Stabilization
When used on a camera body without IBIS you will automatically have up to 5.5 stops of image stabilisation, and when used on a body with IBIS, you have up to 8 stops of IS.
Due to the screw-type STM motor, you will also have minimal focus breathing while recording video.
