With the Fujifilm GFX Eterna 55 Cinema Camera, Fujifilm brings its long photographic history to a video-centric form. With its 43.8 x 33.9 mm (Large Format) CMOS sensor that covers Open Gate, Super 35, and 2.39:1 anamorphic options. This allows you to easily crop down to a wide variety of formats in post.
Multiple recording codecs are also available, taking full advantage of the large sensor built into the Aterna 55. Internally record video in Apple ProRes 422/HQ/LT, 4:2:2, 10-bit HEVC/H.265, or H.264 or ProRes proxies. Use the HDMI output for external 4:2:2 10-bit uncompressed or 12-bit raw recording.
The Fujifilm GFX Eterna 55 Cinema Camera additionally features some additional add-ons and built-in features for an easier recording experience. These include a dedicated top handle with multiple controls to provide a more comfortable camera handling experience and additional mounting points for additional accessories. For maximum ease of monitoring, you will find a 3" built-in LCD touchscreen on both sides of the camera body, as well as a dedicated 5" monitor that mounts to the included top handle.
Native 4:3 Aspect Ratio
The Fujifilm GFX Eterna 55 Cinema Camera features a digonal sensor, introducing one of the tallest sensors currently on the market. The native 4:3 aspect ratio provides you with a canvas that is 1.75x greater than 4-perf Super 35.
Five Main Formats
Five main formats that are paired to specific lens categories. These include:
- GF and Premista, for use with FUJIFILM lenses.
- 35mm, anamorphic (35mm), and Super 35, for use with a range of lenses from multiple brands.
- Each of these five formats has multiple resolution selections, further expanding your capture options.
Video Formats/Resolutions
Expanding on previous Fujifilm GFX models, the GFX Eterna 55 expands on the video recording options with new Open Gate, Super 35, and 2.39:1 anamorphic options using a large 4.8 x 32.9mm sensor.
- Open Gate is available in 3.8K 4:3 at rates up to 48 fps.
- Super 35 options include 6.3K24 in 16:9, DCI 4K30/UHD 4K30 in 17:9 and 16:9, and up to 1080p60 in 17:9 and 16:9.
- Anamorphic 2.39:1 is available in Cine 5.8K up to 30 fps, Super 35 8K24 in 2.39:1, and Super 35 4K24 in 1.2:1.
Anamorphic Ready
The Fujifilm GFX Eterna 55 Cinema Camera's large 4:3 sensor is ready for you to use anamorphic lenses, and provides for real-time anamorphic de-squeezing for on-set monitoring.
Recording Codecs
Take full advantage of the camera's large sensor and internally record video in Apple ProRes 422/HQ/LT, 4:2:2, 10-bit HEVC/H.265, or H.264 or ProRes proxies. Use the HDMI output for external 4:2:2 10-bit uncompressed or 12-bit raw recording.
Custom Frame Guides
The Fujifilm GFX Eterna 55 Cinema Camera allows you to create custom frame guides right from the viewfinder with up to three saved for quick access. Aspect ratios range include 1:1, 3:2, 4:3, 5:4, 16:9, 17:9, 2.39:1, and custom.
Variable ND Filter
Included, you will also find a built-in variable electronic ND filter. This will allow you to adjust your exposure without stopping down or opening your lens. This ND filter is ideal for bright exteriors, slower shutter speeds, and shallow depths-of-field looks. The filter varies from ND0.6 to ND 2.1, providing a range of 2 to 7 stops.
Low-Pass Filter (OLPF)
Now for the first time in the GFX line, you will find an included OLPF (Optical Low-Pass Filter) reducing colour anomalies and moiré effects, especially when shooting with LED wall backgrounds.
20 Film Simulations
The Fujifilm GFX Eterna 55 Cinema Camera offers you access to 20 Fujifilm film simulations, these is to allows you to recreate your favourite cinema looks. These include:
- PROVIA/Standard, Velvia/Vivid, ASTIA/Soft, Classic Chrome, REALA ACE
- PRO Neg. Hi and Std., Classic Neg., Nostalgic Neg., ETERNA/Cinema

Cinematic Visuals
Further, the 20 film looks, you are able to create 3D LUTs for select film looks for use with the expansive colours and dynamic range of F-Log2 C. The include:

Hot Swapping
The Fujifilm GFX Eterna 55 Cinema Camera accepts an NP-W235 battery that allows for external hot swapping or swapping to DC power input. The NP-W235 is automatically charged when the camera is connected to an external battery source.
5" Monitor and Dual 3" Displays
On either side of the camera body, you will find a 3" touchscreen with a 4:3 aspect ratio and a 700 cd/m² brightness. With the screens on either side, they provide easy control access for both the operator and the A.C.
With the camera, you will find an included dedicated 5" external touchscreen monitor, providing a 16:9 aspect ratio and 2000 cd/m² brightness for daylight visibility.
Dedicated Top Handle
With the Eterna 55, you will find an included top handle dedicated to the camera. On the left side of the handle, you will find a dial that can be assigned to ND filter control or to focus, iris, or zoom control when paired with an electronically controlled lens.
For easy balancing, the handle features a sliding rail base, which allows you to quickly adjust the camera balance for handheld use after a lens change or adding a battery.
Connectivity
The Fujifilm GFX Eterna 55 Cinema Camera features built-in Wi-Fi and Ethernet, which enables a wide range of features to be added. These include Frame.io compatibility, browser-based remote control for focus, iris, zoom, and more.
