The Nikon AF-S 70-200mm f/2.8E FL ED VR Lens is a full-frame FX telephoto zoom lens designed to meet the high resolution and fast focusing abilities of Nikon's latest DSLR's. The lens features many new advancements over its predecessor, including a FL (fluorite) element, an electromagnetic diaphragm mechanism, a lighter weight, and a new sport mode.
70-200mm zoom
This lens features a focal length of 70-200mm. This range makes the lens ideal for portraiture, weddings, events, close wildlife and other telephoto subjects.
FX format full-frame lens
The Nikon AF-S 70-200mm f/2.8E FL ED VR is a full frame (FX format) lens. Nikon's full frame lenses can be mounted on Nikon professional bodies (FX), or even cropped sensor (DX) bodies. When the lens is mounted on a DX crop Nikon camera the focal length gets boosted to 105-300mm (35mm equivalent).
Constant f/2.8 maximum aperture
The Nikon AF-S 70-200mm f/2.8E FL ED VR features a maximum aperture of f2.8 throughout the entire zoom range. This enables great depth of field control and makes tracking and capturing in low-light a breeze.
Electromagnetic diaphragm mechanism
During high-speed continuous shooting the lens' electromagnetic diaphragm syncs with the camera shutter for remarkably consistent exposure. even with a teleconverter. AF tracking is also improved, even for subjects with unpredictable or very fast movement.
4-stop image stabilisation with Sports mode
The Vibration Reduction (VR) system in the Nikon AF-S 70-200mm f/2.8E FL ED VR reduces camera shake/movements to decrease blur. The VR system is rated at a 4-stop equivalent and enables users to shoot shutter speeds at up to 16 times slower than non-VR/IS lenses, and still get sharp and blur free images.
Sport mode limits vibration reduction to the minimum needed for subjects that are moving quickly and unpredictably. The viewfinder offers a more stable image when the camera is mounted on a monopod. Even when the camera is hand-held, the image in the viewfinder remains as stable and smooth as if the camera were on a monopod, making it easier to track the subject when the camera is panned during high-speed burst shooting. Frame rate and shutter response are unaffected.
Fluorite lens element
The Nikon AF-S 70-200mm f/2.8E FL ED VR lens features a fluorite lens element provide excellent chromatic aberration reduction. The lens element is also lighter than common optical glass; and because this element is on the front of the lens, the centre of gravity shifts closer to the camera for easier handling.
Fluorine coat
The front element of the lens features a protective fluorine coat. This highly durable coat effectively repels dust, water, grease (oil), fingerprints, and dirt. Additionally the coat has superior anti-reflection characteristics that greatly reduces the chances of ghosting and/or flaring.
Internal focusing
Neither the lens barrel or the front element shifts or moves during focus. This allows the lens to be more compact allowing for compact, enables closer focusing, and makes using gradient filters effortless as the front element stays still/static.
Nano Crystal Coat
The Nano Crystal Coat is an anti-reflective coating developed by Nikon that eliminates internal reflections across a wide range of wavelengths. the coat uses ultrafine, nano-sized crystal particles to eliminate reflections inside the lens throughout the spectrum of visible light waves in ways that far exceed the limits of conventional anti-reflection coating systems. Nano Crystal Coat not only solves ghost effects caused by red light, which was incredibly difficult for previous systems. It also effectively reduces ghost and flare effects caused by light entering the lens diagonally.
9-bladed aperture diaphragm
A nine-bladed aperture diaphragm provides pleasant bokeh in out of focus areas
Minimum focus distance of 1.1m
A close minimum focus distance of 1.1m enables the Nikon 70-200 f/2.8E to capture close-ups and fine details.
Tripod Collar/Lens foot
The tripod collar ring spins on ball bearings for smooth transitions between horizontal and vertical shooting.
