He recently got nominated for Best Short Film Editor at the Silwerkerm Film Awards.

He has worked with brands such as Puma, New Balance, Showmax, DSTV and recently worked on Akon’s music video as well as Davido.

Course Details:

Explore cinematic storytelling with the Nikon ZR in this practical course led by Mizo Maclean. Across four evening classes, you will develop your understanding of the camera and build your cinematography and post-production skills, taking a short story from filming through to a finished edit. Students will have access to Nikon ZR cameras throughout the duration of the course.

The course begins with an introduction to the camera body, button functions and key features, helping you become comfortable with its controls. You will explore R3D and N-RAW recording formats and understand how your shooting choices influence your post-production workflow.
From there, you will move into the fundamentals of cinematography, covering ISO, full-frame and crop modes, framing, composition, and shutter angle versus shutter speed. Practical lighting setups will help you develop your cinematography skillset and explore how light shapes the mood and appearance of a scene. You will also learn about filming interviews, recording 32-bit float audio, and using histograms, waveforms and zebras to assess exposure.

Putting these skills into practice, you will shoot a 90-second story before moving into post-production. This stage introduces the differences between RAW and Log footage, converting R3D and N-RAW footage to Rec.709, and the flexibility RAW footage offers when adjusting image settings after filming.

The course concludes with editing your footage, applying a cinematic colour grade and incorporating sound effects. Through practical exercises, you will develop a clearer understanding of how camera settings, lighting, editing and sound work together to support your story.
