This results in faster shooting speeds, impressive image quality with wide sensitivity and dynamic ranges. Along with more fluent processing that's capable of handling your large AI tasks.
This processing system also reduces rolling shutter and other motion distortions for clean rendering of moving subjects.
Pre-Capture and Speed Boost
To benefit sports and wildlife applications, the Sony Alpha A7R VI Mirrorless Camera, for the first time in a a7R body, you will find action-specific modes.
Pre-Capture: When the shutter button is half pressed, the camera will start recording images at 30 fps with AF/AE to the buffer, then saves to the memory card once full pressed.
Speed Boost: Using a pre-assigned button, you can instantly switch to the Speed Boost Mode to instantly switch to a faster shooting mode to make sure you do not miss a shot.
Improved 8.5-Stop IBIS
In the A 7R VI you will also find an upgraded in-body stabilisation (IBIS) system now supporting a reduction of up to 8.5 stops of camera shake when shooting handheld. This 5-axis stabilisation system combines a high-performance gyro sensor with an optimised algorithm providing more precise control and improved communication between the camera and lens.
Pixel Shift Multi Shooting
The Sony Alpha A7R VI Mirrorless Camera features the unique composing mode that allows you to achieve greater resolution than the 66.8MP sensor affords. It works with sensor-shift image stabilisation. This shifts the sensor while making 4 or 15 consecutive exposures in order to acquire approximately 265.8mp.
Advanced Focus and Real-time Recognition AF+
AI Processing Unit
Employing the BIONZ XR2 processor with a dedicated AI processing unit built-in you will find improved precision and subject recognition. The newly developed Real-Time Recognition AF+ offers more stable and reliable performance, especially with distant subjects and changing types. Seven selectable target types include:
Human: tracks the body and head positions, human pose estimation has been improved with Real-Time Eye AF+.Animal, Bird, and Animal/Bird modes recognise animals from dogs, cats, birds and more that pinpoint and focus on eyes and recognise bodies and heads. Insect recognition offers even finer performance to detect the head of an entire insect subject. Car/Train and Aeroplane recognition focuses on the front of a train and the nose of an aeroplane, and then focuses on the entire subject.
Advanced Fast Hybrid AF
The Sony Alpha A7R VI Mirrorless Camera features a Fast Hybrid AF system that covers 94% of the full-frame image area, and 100% of the APS-C area, a Fast Hybrid AF system incorporates a dense 759 phase-detection point grid for quick and precise focusing in a variety of lighting conditions with sensitivity down to -6 EV. This focusing system is available for use in all recording modes to benefit both video and stills applications.
Full-Time Direct Manual Focus, enables you to use your lens's manual focus ring to adjust focus to different subjects in the scene, even when using autofocus.
For photographing moving subjects, this AF system keeps up with the top 30 fps continuous shooting speeds, offering full-time AF tracking between each consecutive frame at a maximum rate of 60 AF/AE calculations per second.
AF During Video Recording
You will have full real-time Eye AF support during video recording for subject detection and tracking of human, animal and bird eyes while shooting.
Focus Map allows you to visualise depth of field, and functions in a similar way to peaking, with a colourful overlay indicating what is in front and behind the focus point in the frame. AF Assist, brought over from Sony's cine line allows you to intuitively switch to manual focus to position focus points when working with AF. This is useful when you need to shift focus to different subjects in the scene when recording.
Video Recording
Improved filmmaking capabilities make this camera more of an all-around hybrid workhorse.
