Optical Performance

The Sony FE 85mm f/1.4 GM II Lens builds on the outstanding optical performance of the predecessor offering equally good bokeh, but higher resolutions, even at f/1.4 with full autofocus support with Sony A-Series cameras.
Including two XA (Extreme Aspherical) elements that offer notable resolutions right to the image edges, while two ED (Extra-Low Dispersion glass elements reduce chromatic aberration. The application of Sony's Nano AR Coating II suppresses ghosting and flare for notable clarity and resolution.
Building on the performance of the previous model, the Sony FE 85mm f/1.4 GM II Lens features enhanced optics for controlling chromatic aberration for a natural bokeh. This is assisted by an 11-blade circular aperture. While closely controlled spherical aberration and XA (Extreme Aspherical) elements reduce inion-rig bokeh for smooth transitions from sharp focus to deep f/1.4 bokeh.

AF Performance

Two XD (Extreme Dynamic) Linear Motors and high-speed control provide fast, accurate and quiet autofocus performance that is ideal for both video and still applications.
The faster autofocus built into the Sony FE 85mm f/1.4 GM II Lens means you will enjoy improved focusing when working with fast-moving subjects. The shooting capability of 120 fps and Global Shutter in the A9 III is also fully supported.

Mobility and Operability

The GM II version of the 85mm FE is approximately 20% lighter and 13% smaller than the predecessor. Two programmable focus hold buttons and a focus mode switch for intuitive focus control.

Reliability

For when working in inclement weather conditions, the Sony FE 85mm f/1.4 GM II Lens features a moisture and dust-resistant design. Further, the front lens element features a fluorine coating for repelling fingerprints, water, dust and oil, allowing for easy cleaning.
