Canon reaches new heights with the introduction of their new mirrorless Canon EOS Ra specifically designed with astrophotographers in mind.
Following in the footsteps of Canon's EOS 20Da, EOS 60Da and EOS 6Da, the EOS Ra is the first in Canon's new mirrorless technology to offer truly impressive stargazing features. Let's take a closer look at what the Canon Ra offers...
Users of Canon's mirrorless EOS R will be comfortably familiar with the 30.3MP CMOS sensor but will appreciate the new high-precision 3.69M-dot EVF as well as the Dual Pixel CMOS AF with 5,655 AF positions giving you the option to manually select and lock in the position of distant stars for expert focus and tracking capabilities. Canon's gone the extra mile with the vari-angle touchscreen LCD taking into consideration the awkward angles needed to connect your device to telescopes or alternate lenses for EVF viewing.
The additional extra of 4x more transmission sensitivity of hydrogen-alpha rays gives the Canon EOS Ra a greater ability to capture the deep red hues of selected nebulae giving you more opportunity to capture more vivid, true-to-life images. Although this addition which makes the Canon Ra perfect for astrophotography means that this full-frame mirrorless camera is not recommended for general photography as the colour reproduction and accuracy may vary with lighting conditions and your images could take on a reddish hue.
Those interested in the video capabilities of Canon's EOS Ra will be pleased to hear that it also features 4K time-lapse and 4K 30p video with Canon Log and 10-bit 4:2:3 HDI output with high ISO performance.
