The Canon Speedlite 430EX III-RT is a small and powerful flash for Canon EOS DSLR cameras. The flash features small dimensions of 113.8mm * 70.5mm, and weighs a mere 295g. Don't let the size fool you, the flash features a focal length range of 24-105mm, a maximum guide number of 43m at ISO 100; and loads of other features such as RF and IR wireless radio transmission, high speed sync, E-TTL II, a bounce card, 10 custom functions and 8 personal functions.
RF and IR wireless radio transmission
The 430EX III-RT features a built-in wireless flash trigger that can trigger other compatible Canon cameras and speedlites through either infra-red (Optical Transmission) or a 2.4GHz radio frequency. Infra-red can be used when the flash has line of sight contact with other flashes, and the light condition is dark or mild; and radio can be used even if the flash does not have direct line of sight and the light conditions will have no affect on the frequency's reliability/range. Infrared features 4 channels in 3 groups with a range of up to 15m, and radio transmission features 15 channels in 5 groups with a range of up to 30m.
Recycling time from 0.1-2.5 seconds
The Canon 430 EX III-RT flash features a fast recycling time of 0.1 seconds on the lowest power output and 2.5 on the highest power output. This is especially helpful in portrait and sports photography when expressions and actions can change in an instant. With shorter recycling times, the opportunities to capture a precise expression or a specific moment are increased, time and again.
Flexibility for bounce options
The flash head can tilt up to 90, and rotate 150 to the left, or 180 to the right. This enables users to bounce the flash of walls, ceilings, reflectors and other objects in order to achieve creative light.
Enhanced Flash Exposure Compensation and Light Distribution settings
The Speedlite 430EX III-RT features both enhanced flash exposure compensation and an advanced light distribution feature for more control over the intensity and direction of the beam emitted. Perfect for balancing the brightness between subject and background, flash exposure can now be adjusted within a 6-stop range of +/-3EV, and in increments as small as or step, all using the Speedlite 430EX III-RT's new Control Dial. Light distribution can also be altered from Standard according to the photographer's intended field of view. Guide No. Priority mode automatically sets flash distribution toward the center of the composition for use with a telephoto lens. Even Coverage mode sets flash distribution for wide-angle photography, helping to minimize light falloff in the corners of the composition.
In addition, the Speedlite 430EX III-RT features high-speed sync, which not only enables flash photography of fast moving subjects, it's also a useful tool to help add drama and depth to daytime photography. By using the Speedlite 430EX III-RT with a large aperture setting, a fast shutter speed and high speed-sync, it can be easy to capture the subject with even illumination, while blurring the background, highlighting the subject and creating an effective sense of depth.
10 custom functions and 8 personal functions
To help ensure comfortable and intuitive use no matter the photographer, the Speedlite 430EX III-RT has a number of custom and personal functions that are easily defined in the Speedlite 430EX III-RT's menu system. Custom Functions include measurement indications, power controls, powering of modeling flash and AF assist beam, light distribution settings, exposure compensation settings, wireless flash settings and more.
